Walking & Riding tracks

There are so many tracks to explore. Here are some of our favorites:

Paynesville / Raymond Island / Eagle Point

Paynesville / Eagle Point loop (10 km)  This track takes you from Captains Cove through Sunset Cove and along Newlands Drive Foreshore. Most of the walk meanders along the McMillans Straits, Newlands Arm & Lake King. You will see kangaroos at Eagle Point in the mornings and at dusk

Captains Cove to Sunset Cove - our favorite Paynesville playground & sandy beached area to paddle in the lake. Great BBQ facilities and an easy walk from Captains Cove (2km one way). Head to the Paynesville foreshore & turn right. Follow the water's edge along. You can continue on the dirt track leading into the serenity of Newlands Arm. Great for kids on bikes. The end of the track offers a challenge for runners looking for a hill. This walk can be shortened as it is not a loop so you can turn back anytime

Raymond Island is the perfect bike riding location & highly recomended for children. The island is quiet with minimal traffic & lots of places to explore. Catch the ferry from Paynesville for free when you are walking or cycling. Hire a bike from Captains Cove or try Ride the Koalas which is a super fun way to explore the island

The Mitchell River Silt Jetties is 8km long. Click here for more info

The Den of Nargun is located in the Mitchell River National Park & is a 5km circuit. Well worth the trip to experience this significant Aboriginal site. Walk in to the Den meandering through rainforest, gulleys & creeks. 45 minutes drive from Captains Cove

East Gippsland Rail Trail
